This project was initially taken on as an emergency as there was considerable visible movement on the wall. There was a risk of significant damage to buildings and possible risk to life.
An initial assessment was made; we decided that the wall must be made safe and that we would take the damaged section of wall down safely whilst taking the material back to a 45-degree slope.
A specialist local engineer was engaged to aid us with a design for a repair for this difficult location.
It was decided to cast a reinforced concrete wall fixed to the bedrock using R32 self-drilling bars grouted in place.
The other sections of wall around the damaged area were soil nailed to prevent future movement of the surrounding areas.
